Halloween Make-Up Tutorial: 'Zombie Barbie'

Wednesday, October 29, 2014

Hello everyone! As Halloween is now only a couple of days away, I thought it would be a spooktacular idea to show you a little last minute make-up look. I personally love this look and I will definitely be wearing it out this Halloween! It's super easy to do and looks rather girly yet not losing that grotesque attitude needed for Halloween. Outfit wise, you can honestly wear this with anything pink you may have already in your wardrobe, after all we are trying to look like Barbie!

First off just do your make-up as though you would on a normal every day basis. But for now leave your eyes blank and you can go a little 'ham' on the bronzer! Heavy contouring works brilliantly for this look, in order to really define your cheekbones quite like how I imagine a real life Barbie would look.

For the eyes, just prime as usual. I have used my all time favourite, the Benefit 'Stay Don't Stray'. To recreate this look I have used my 'Perfect Peepers' palette, which is a lovely little pink eyeshadow duo. I used the lighter shade across my entire lid then just blended the deeper pink into my crease. You can make this as big as you wish. You aren't required to blend in too much as it's Halloween and therefore the more dramatic the better! I decided to bring this down below my eye just to create the effect of bruising, making me appear more 'zombie like'.To highlight my eyes ever so slightly, I placed 'Dust' from Naked 3 into my inner tear duct to complete the look I was aiming for. You can then use a liquid eyeliner across the tightline of your lid and create a big wing. The bigger and thicker then the better and more dramatic it shall look! There are definitely no limits with this look. To intensify my eyes even more I placed a kohl liner on my waterline and topped with mascara. You could probably add some fake lashes if you want to intensify the look even further, I personally don't want wear falsies and thought the look was fine like this. But it is definitely your preference.

To highlight I taken my Topshop 'Glow' cream and placed this alongside my eyes, the bridge of my nose and my cupids bow. I tried to keep my highlight quite minimal as for Halloween we typically want more of a darker look to our face. For the lips I kept it quite simple and used this lovely, deep burgundy colour from Topshop which I absolutely adore. It's in the shade 'Wine Gum' and I would seriously recommend it if you're in to dark lips!

Lastly, here's where it gets a little tricky. To create the wounds I used things you may possibly have in your house. To begin I used a glue stick and just placed this on my face, probably not the best idea in the world but I've done this before in theatre and it worked perfectly fine! Then taking a cotton pad, I ripped it in half and stuck one half to my face. Using my Naked 3 palette I patted over the pad to create the colour I wanted for my wound. I used the shades 'Buzz', 'Liar' and 'Factory. I then ripped a whole into the pad and with the other half of the pad, I rolled it to create a thin line. I then glued this around the perimeter of the whole too make my wound appear really deep. I then coloured in the lining and placed a red lipstick in the centre where the hole was to give the illusion of blood. I used my 'Wine Gum' lip bullet also to dab this onto the lining to really let it stand out, creating the look of a really deep wound. To finish off you can draw some 'criss-crosses' in a black eyeliner in a couple areas on your face to show scratches quite like a typical zombie.

I hope you liked this look! If you re-create it, then please let me know down in the comments below. It was honestly so fun to do this so I hope you love it as much as me!

Until next time my lovelies!

Fall GRWM: Make-Up, Outfit and Hair!

Saturday, October 25, 2014

Hello lovelies! I hope you're enjoying your week so far! In the fall time I tend to change my make-up up a little bit and thought it would be a nice idea to show you what I like to do on a typical morning in the fall/autumn time, so take this as a morning routine if you will! I'll be showing you what I apply to my face on a daily basis as well as a typical outfit I like to wear during this time of the year, I hope you enjoy this post and I will see you in my next one which will be coming on Monday!

First off just to make my face feel a little more refreshed in the morning, I like to gently go over my face using my Garnier 'Micellar Cleansing Water'. It's honestly amazing how dirt can still slide off of your face when you thought your make-up was taken off the night before! I then, brush teeth because well, it would be pretty gross if you didn't right? Then taking my current holy grail facial wash the 'Neutrogena Grapefruit Cleansing Facial Wash'. This has honestly helped my skin so much and I have suffered fairly badly with spots in the past but my skin has cleared up so much since using this, so I would definitely recommend it! Then to finish off I like to moisturise my face, prepping it for foundation and I'm currently using the 'Nivea Soft' for face, body and hands.

To prep for foundation I just applied my Benefit 'Porefessional' all across my T-Zone and then blended out through my face. I decided to use a different foundation this morning as I had a sample of the new 'Dior Star' foundation and I must say this foundation is honestly my new favourite! I definitely need to get a full size, it definitely gives you that 'flawless' skin finish. Taking my favourite drugstore concealer I just applied this to any blemishes and my under eyes to make me look slightly more awake! Then to set this I used my 'Rimmel London Stay Matte' powder in the shade 005 'Silky Beige'.To then add some colour into my face I used the 'Rimmel London Sun Shimmer' bronzer just to contour and blending into my neck just to make my skin colour seem more even. Once my base is done, I like to brush my eyebrows out just incase any excess powder of foundation got in them. I actually just use a clean mascara brush to do this, it works quite well!

I'm currently so drawn to using my Naked 2 Basics palette, so just to prime my eyes for eye shadow I used my Benefit 'Stay Don't Stray' then from the palette I just placed 'Skimp' across my entire lid then blended 'Stark' into my crease and blended into the lid. I then taken 'Half Baked' from the original 'Naked' palette and placed this into my inner tear duct as a highlight. Finishing off with my Eyeko London liquid eyeliner, also placing my Miss Sporty kohl liner onto my waterline and then topping that off with a coat of my 'Maybelline Great Lash' mascara. I wanted a little more lash volume on this day so I used my Magnifibres Lashes, waited the amount of time and BOOM! Lashes are on point! Kinda.. haha! I have such small eyelashes it makes me sad! To finish off my make-up I taken my Topshop 'Glow' cream and placed this onto my cupids bow, the sides of my eyes and the bridge of my nose, gently blending this in with my finger. And we cannot forget the lips! So to give them a touch of moisture I just applied my EOS lip balm.

Then after applying all of that, I ended up looking quite like this! (Please excuse my 'typical' selfie face haha!)

As for hair, I decided to just leave it down and natural. I think having your hair loose in the fall is so cosy! (And I am just super lazy when it comes to hair anyway haha!)

On this fine Autumn morning I went looking at a university and so decided to treat myself to a cheeky Starbucks for breakfast because why not? And a Pumpkin Spiced Latte is an offer too good to miss!

Naked Basics VS Naked 2 Basics: Comparison Review!

Monday, October 20, 2014

Hello you lovely people! So I recently managed to get my hands on the Naked 2 Basics palette which meant I have now finally finished my Naked collection! I've seen many people really struggling with whether to get into the Naked range as it does mount up to a fair amount of money if you choose to invest in them all and so I thought why not start off by giving you guys my opinion on the cheapest palettes of the bunch: meet the Naked Basics!

Now a lot of people do tend to agree the similarity between these palettes makes it not really that worth it to invest in the newest of the bunch: Naked Basics 2. For me, the palettes are actually really different. I find that the original Basics palette is much more brown toned with darker shades, excluding the only shimmery shade 'Venus' whereas the second basics palette is much paler in its' pigmentation which surprisingly is much more suited to me. As I have quite dark features already I feel as though deep brown shades tend to wash me out, leaving me looking quite tired looking which isn't exactly the look I am aiming for.

Since experimenting with the Naked Basics 2 palette I have been leaning more towards the shades 'Skimp' and 'Stark'. I tend to place 'Skimp' all over my lid and then blend 'Stark' out into my crease and then to about halfway across my lid. I feel that 'Undone' is a really good shade if you are wanting a dark, black smokey eye yet still not too intense as it is slightly paler than 'Crave' in the original Basics palette. From the first palette I love using 'Venus' as a highlight shade and place this usually in my inner tear duct just to brighten up my eyes a little whilst giving them some definition too. 'W.O.S' is another lovely shade which I think works well either alone or across the lid with a darker colour blended in next to this in the crease. The colour of the shade is actually quite similar to 'Stark' in Naked Basics 2. 'Crave' I think is one of those timeless, classic shades that is absolutely necessary in any 'let's get back to basics' style of palette. You can build upon the shade to intensify the look or blend in to create a more subtle approach to the smokey eye.

On the whole I feel the feel of these shades are lovely in both palettes. They have a really nice, soft feel to them and even though have great pigmentation (even without a primer!) they blend in really well too! I do understand the argument of the shades being too similar to even bother buying the second palette but I think it's generally your own personal preference. For me, I prefer the Naked Basics 2 as the shades generally appeal to me more, they're all slightly paler than those of the original Naked Basics palette and even though I love my eyeshadows I don't tend to wear them a lot on a daily basis so if I'm going for a natural look the second palette screams 'Naked' more to me than the first. There is a large similarity between the two however, you have your shimmery highlight from each palette 'Venus' from the first; 'Skimp' from the second. As I said before the colour of 'Stark' and 'W.O.S' are also very similar with 'W.O.S' from the first palette surprisngly being the palest out of the two. The other similar shades are 'Crave' and 'Undone', 'Naked 2 and Frisk' and finally 'Faint and Primal'. I feel as though 'Foxy' and 'Cover' are stand alone shades in each palette and aren't similar to any other shades. 'Foxy' is quite yellow toned yet with elements of white whereas 'Cover' is a pale brown with silver undertones.

I absolutely adore both palettes but the paler shades from Naked 2 win me over slightly more. Have you tried any of these palettes? Which shades are your favourite? If you have both palettes, which one do you prefer? I hope you liked this review and I'll speak to you in my next post!!

Until then,

DIY: Quick And Easy! Halloween Shortbread Biscuits

Monday, October 13, 2014

Hello lovelies! With Halloween beginning to approach us I couldn't help but share with you this little shortbread recipe. Now I love shortbread so I decided to google a recipe and found this one from the BBC. I then adapted it to make a Halloween inspired biscuit. You can bake these for a Halloween party or a movie night with the girls (or the guys!), they are super easy to make and I must admit super yummy too so here's how to make them!

What you will need:

  • 125g/4oz Butter
  • 55g/2oz Caster Sugar +Plus some for later!
  • 180g/6oz Plain Flour +Plus some for later!
  • Ready To Roll Icing
  • Icing Pens - Green/Orange (Black could work too!)
  • Halloween Decorations
  • Jam/Strawberry Sauce (I only realised this at the end, sorry I didn't include a picture!)

For the Halloween decorations, I found these at my local cake shop so you should be able to hopefully find something like these too! I opted for some iced bats and some glow in the dark Halloween signs. For the icing pens the reason I chosen green and orange is because I decided to draw some pumpkins on my biscuits but you could do whatever you wanted, you could buy some black for a ghost or a bat, it's completely up to you!

How To Make:

1. Place your butter into a mixing bowl, then add the sugar to mix the two together until you are left with a smooth paste. (This may take some time, don't panic!)

2. Once your paste is smooth enough, add the flour and once again mix this until you're ingredients have blended in smoothly together, once again.

3. Then place your mixture onto a surface to roll out. I recommend lining the surface with flour so it doesn't stick to it, nothing is a worse than a broken biscuit!! Then take a rolling pin and roll out your mixture until around 1cm thick (BBC guidelines recommend this thickness!).

4. To create the shape of your biscuits take a cutter (Or a cup, this works just as well!) and begin to cut your biscuits into circles. This does not have to be perfect as we will be lining the biscuits with icing anyway!

5. Once your biscuits are cut into shape, place them onto a baking tray and sprinkle some caster sugar onto each one, then placing them in the fridge for around 20 minutes. Pre-heat your oven to either gas mark 5/190C/375F.

6. Now your biscuits are ready to go in the oven! Leave to bake for around 15-20 minutes.

Preparing The Icing:

1. Just as you did before with the mixture, roll out onto a flat surface. In order for the icing not to stick just sprinkle some of the caster sugar onto the surface and begin to roll. You may want to flip the icing over once fairly flattened as the sugar may begin to cling to it rather than the surface.

2. Once your icing is as flat as you need and big enough to cover the surface of your biscuits then use your cutter (or mug!) as before and begin to cut into the circle shapes.

1.To allow the icing to the stick to the biscuit, spread an even layer of jam or strawberry sauce across the top of the biscuit.

2. Place the icing circles on top of your biscuits and begin to decorate as you wish!

3. Now, eat and enjoy!

And for any left over icing, why not create some mini icing ghosts like I did?! They're super cute and super yummy too!!

I hope you liked this post and do let me know in the comments below if you do try this recipe out! You can send me pictures to my twitter page @ClarkeCouture if you wish as I would love to see what your biscuits turned out like! What are your plans for Halloween? Let me know in the comments below!

Until next time..

September Favourites

Monday, October 6, 2014

Can you believe it is October already? I say this every month but the year is just flying by! Now October is here, we've finally entered my favourite time of the year: Autumn/Winter! But for now, let's rewind a few weeks as I tell you all about the products I have been loving in September.

For the back to school season, I decided to change my skincare routine up a little bit by adding a couple new products to the mix. First of all I began using the Neutrogena grapefruit cleansing facial wash, I've been using this for four weeks now and the results are honestly amazing! Unfortunately I cannot say my spots have disappeared completely but I've definitely now got less and the ones that I have now are also much smaller. The condition of my skin just feels so soft and I now feel really refreshed whenever I get a wash. With there being a grapefruit extract, the product is slightly scented but not enough to especially notice and put you off it.

As well as this, I've also been loving the Freederm spot gel. I just place this on any blemishes I have and leave it on my face overnight and the next morning the size has reduced vastly and then a couple days later the spot has actually disappeared. This alongside my Neutrogena facial wash have been a Godsend for my skin this month!

Now of course I have to talk about Benefit's Majorette! If you have read my review then you will know I think of nothing but good things when it comes to this product. It smells good, blends really nicely and makes my skin look really dewy and has a lovely matte tone when applied with one of their 'box o' powders'. Need I say more?

Another go to of mine in September has been my Urban Decay 'Naked' palette. As I mentioned in my autumn tag, I am loving the gold and brown toned shades for the Autumn and I really began to get back into this palette towards the end of the month. My current go to's are 'Half Baked' and 'Smog' these look lovely when paired together.

Around the middle of September I made a couple of cheeky Maybelline purchases. Maybelline is definitely my favorite drugstore brand so I couldn't help but treat myself to a product (or two!) of theirs, especially when Superdrug were having a buy one get one 50% off across the whole range. I opted for the 'Great Lash' mascara, I had heard a lot of good things about this product in the past and I wasn't disappointed! I chosen the waterproof version and oh boy is it waterproof, which is perfect for the autumn when it starts pouring down with rain and.. you left that umbrella of yours at home! I do wish it added more volume to my lashes but it does separate them really well!

Finally, beauty wise I then purchased the Maybelline Colour Sensational in '725 Tantalising Taupe'. I think this is such a pretty shade for the autumn as I do love a good nude lipstick during this time of the year, This is actually also really moisturising which is great because for a person who is prone to dry lips, I can actually wear this alone!

Okay, this is super cliche and by the end of October you will be sick of hearing about them but I cannot not include the Starbucks Pumpkin Spiced Latte. I am genuinely addicted, it honestly just tastes like fall in a cup. Perfect.

Continuing with the coffee theme, lets move onto Costa! This month they released the spiced apple caramel crisp cake and oh my god it tastes so so so good! Perfect for fall, although it's a shame you cannot taste the apple.. at all.

Another random favorite of mine this month has actually been a book! I recently purchased 'Fashion Journalism' by Julie Bradford and I have honestly never read such an informative, helpful little book. It is honestly perfect for any budding fashion journalist (like myself!!) with hints and tips from people in the industry on everything you should expect to experience and how to make your mark into the industry. If you would like a complete review of this book then please let me know in the comments below and I will be happy to do that for you! You can buy the book from Amazon for £24.29  (Usually £26.99 - Save 10%!!)

Now, last but certainly not least I cannot forget to include the two tracks that One Direction released this month from their upcoming album 'Four'. (I must admit, they could have been a bit more imaginative than that!) Now it is no secret that I am a 'die hard directioner' (lol!) since the mere age of 13, (Yes guys that's right one of the original bunch of fans over here!) so when I heard 'Fireproof' and 'Steal My Girl' I certainly wasn't disappointed. The songs have a nice 'pop' tone to them without entirely losing that 'rocky edge' they had running right through each of the tracks from their previous album 'Midnight Memories'. 10/10 from me!

So that's it to my September favourites, did you like anything just as much as me or have you been loving something different? Let me know in the comments below! Also don't forget to let me know if you would like me to complete a book review on 'Fashion Journalism' by 'Julie Bradford'.

Until next time..

The Autumn Tag!

Saturday, October 4, 2014

Hello everyone! I guess it's safe to say now that we are well and truly into the autumn season. I absolutely adore this time of year, so I thought why not do the autumn tag?! I have seen so many people doing this tag and I thought it would just be a nice way for you guys to get to know me a little bit better.

1. Ok we're talking coffee's - what's your favorite seasonal drink from Starbucks/Costa/Cafe Nero etc?
I hate to be so clichee. but for me it has to be the Pumpkin Spiced Latte from Starbucks, hands down! I love this drink so much, I think it is just perfect at this time of year and it just makes me feel all cosy and warm inside so it is a must for me!!

2. Accessories - What do you opt for? Boots, scarves or gloves?
Can I say two? I absolutely love boots and scarves, I just think they are so comfy and cosy and I adore the look of having knee high socks peeping out from boots, it's so cute!

3. Music - What's your favorite music to listen to during Autumn?
To be honest, I don't really have any go to sort of music during Autumn. If I had to choose I would say Taylor Swift back in the days when she was more into the country vibe, or anything acoustic. I like a good 'chill out' song in the fall.

4. Perfume - What's your favorite scent in the Autumn?
I love anything apple scented so DKNY's 'Be Delicious' is definitely my go to!

5. Candles - What scents will you be burning this season?
I currently don't own any at the moment but I love anything pumpkin scented or anything with a hint of spice of caramel. I definitely need to invest in some candles really soon!!

6. What do you love most about Autumn?
Literally everything! I love the crunchy noise you hear when walking over leaves, burning candles, pumpkin spiced lattes, the feeling of the air getting colder, being cosy by the fire, wearing darker lipstick, darker clothes, oversized sweaters boots, scarves, halloween, bonfire night! I love everything basically.

7. Favorite Make-Up Look?
This may seem pretty Christmassy to some but I love gold eyeshadows with nude lips and then either really big lashes but no eyeshadow and a dark lipstick. My favorites are 'Half Baked' and 'Smog' from the Urban Decay 'Naked' palette. I also love my Topshop Lip Bullet in the shade 'Wine Gum'.

8. What are you looking forward to most about Autumn?
Halloween definitely! I love the excuse of being able to go a little wild with my make-up and for one night for that to be perfectly acceptable. Oh, and the dressing up of course!

So that's it to this tag, I hope you're all enjoying your weekend! I tag all of you reading this to do this tag! So that's it for me until Monday, let me know in the comments below what is your favorite thing about Autumn?

I also believe this tag was created by Georgina from Makeup-Pixi3 so you can check out the answers to her questions here!

Until next time..

Benefit: Majorette Review and #Cheek2Cheek Tag!

Wednesday, October 1, 2014

I've recently really been loving cream blushes and so when Benefit announced the release of Majorette, I couldn't have possibly been more excited! The best thing is, as always with Benefit I definitely wasn't disappointed. Once I had purchased the product, I noticed Benefit have actually created a tag to go alongside this product and so I thought why not combine this with my thoughts on the product itself; Majorette.

For starters, this product is actually scented! I know some people can be put off by scents on a product but Benefit have definitely done well with this one. To me, the scent smells like a memory. I instantly feel as though I have smelt it before, it's quite like the smell of a warm bubble bath with a hint of orange seeping through. This is definitely a lovely smell to help transition into the fall months from the summer months.

Then, I cant help but be drawn to the packaging. It's super girly, with mixtures of orange, coral and white which perfectly match its' subtle orange scent. I absolutely adore how the rim of this product is ruffled, giving the effect of flower petals as though this product is one big flower. This may seem small but I feel it adds so much to the look of the product; it's just beautifully subtle. Then inside the actual product itself is a small face mirror, therefore you can take this on the go and touch up throughout the day which well, I don't know about you but this comes in really handy! Finishing with the image of the product, the actual blush itself is engraved with what appears to be either a flower or a sunshine depending on which way you look at it I guess.. But once again a lovely subtle detail which really makes this product. Benefit are renowned for their beautiful packaging and the details on this product really do make me smile.

The actual product itself is a beautiful coral color and blends really well into the cheeks. Once blended the product gives a natural, pink flush of color to the cheeks, this was perfect for me as I am just in awe of a natural blush look. The product has an elegantly, smooth texture and from the first touch feels instantly soft. You can either wear this alone which is a look I have been loving especially for back to school when you want your face to appear a little more 'natural'. Or you can wear this below a powder blush to really define your cheeks and bring out your inner pink flush. I love this underneath the Benefit 'Hervana' as this is another beautifully natural product. Therefore when used above Majorette your cheeks aren't too over powered in pink. Finally as this product is a cream to powder blush, I can say it does actually give a powder looking finish to it, so if you're looking for something dewy then this isn't the product for you. But as I have combination skin, this was perfect for giving my face a flush of color whilst staying matte.

I thought it would be a really lovely idea to include the actual tag for the Majorette product alongside this review, I tag all of you to complete this tag too! And recommend you to buy Majorette too of course! But without further adieu, let's get straight into the tag..

1. How do you apply Majorette?
I personally prefer to apply this on its' own as an every day cream blush, the natural look this gives is stunning!

2. What box o' powder do you wear Majorette with?
As I said before, I like to use Benefit's Hervana. It's various pink and purple tones create a beautiful color which compliments Majorette perfectly leaving you with a look that isn't too overpowering.

3. What's your top tip for beautiful cheeks?
Blend, blend, blend! A natural looking flush, is a beautiful one.

4. What's your cheekiest nail color?
I would definitely have to say 'Passion Fruit' by Orly. It's a bright pink color, which to me just represents all things flirtatious and cheeky!

5. What's the cheekiest thing you've done?
I've honestly not done much. I'm so shy!! I'd probably have to go with entering those boxes that ride attendants sit in. Yeah... It was basically a sunny day so I was wearing sunglasses as you do, as I was on the ride they disappeared and one of the guys in the box had them in his hands. I had gotten to know him at the time and he was genuinely waving them round in my face and then he actually put them on! So basically, as I got off the ride I stormed into the box to find them, turns out they weren't there and they were on the floor at the side of the ride and I was then told off by the other man working there as he demanded me to leave the box. I was honestly so embarrassed!

6. Who's the cheekiest person you know?
Ajay.. He's one of my closest friends but he doesn't half know how to wind me up!

7. Who's cheeks would you sneak a peak at if you could?
One Direction.. need I say more? Fashion wise however, I would have to say Diane Von Furstenberg definitely! She's an industry legend!!

8. What cheeky movie character do you most like?
I wouldn't say he was cheeky really.. but Peeta from the Hunger Games or literally any film character Josh Hutcherson has played, he's pretty hot.

9. Have you ever rubbed cheeks with a celebrity?
Yes, I have actually! I've met Union J several times as well as several other X Factor contestants from the 2012 series. I've also met several soap stars from Emmerdale, Coronation Street, Eastenders and Hollyoaks as well as Outnumbered star Tyger Drew-Honey. And my personal favourite, Louis Tomlinson from One Direction. I guess you could say I'm a little bit of a celebrity stalker.. Hahaha!

10. Your favourite cheeky song? (Basically a guilty pleasure!)
One Direction - What Makes You Beautiful

11. Who do you 'pass the baton to?' (Tag!)
As I said before I began answering the questions, I tag all of you reading this to do this tag! If you do, let me know in the comments below as I would love to read your responses to these questions.

Have you tried out Majorette? What were your thoughts? Let me know in the comments below! If not, you can purchase it here from Benefit Cosmetics UK  for £23.50.

Until next time..
