Empties: My Drugstore Favourites!

Monday, November 17, 2014

Hello beauties! I'm honestly so sad that last Monday was the first Monday since July when I began blogging, that I haven't managed to upload a post on. I've been really struggling with the amount of college work I've had to do lately, I have an essay due for every lesson I'm doing. Completing four ongoing essays is not fun, I can guarantee you that!

Never mind that, onto today's post! I'm pretty sure that it's safe to say we all love our high end products, I know I do definitely do just as much as the next person. But sometimes, it's good to spread the love along to the drugstore, as I unfortunately cannot break into the bank for high end products all of the time. So today, I'm going to be discussing with you my favourite drugstore products which I cannot help but repurchase every time!

Rimmel London Sun Shimmer Bronzer in 'Light Matte'
As a girl with pale skin, in the summer bronzer tends to become my best friend. I'm not really all that into fake tan and so I do like a good bronzer to add a flush of colour to my cheeks. In the winter, I don't particularly want to over do it in the bronzing department however, and so this beauty is perfect for that! The product isn't richly pigmented but pigmented enough to give that 'natural' looking bronzed glow you want your skin to have. I find that this blends really well and only takes a couple of coats to give the effect that I'm looking for. I tend to apply this using an Avon cosmetics angled bronzer brush which works really nicely for me.

Rimmel London Stay Matte Powder in '005 Silky Beige'
Holy grail powder right here guys.
I unfortunately have combination skin and so tend to face the problems of both flaking, dry skin and bad, oily breakouts. To tackle the problem I of course moisturise day and night but I also use this powder daily too. I find that throughout the day when you reach the stage where your make-up is beginning to slide off and fade, your skin may appear oilier than usual. So not only does this powder keep my make-up set in place all day but with it being matte I also receive the even finish that I want for my skin. As I moisturise before my foundation, the powder helps to lock in my skin's moisture, leaving the perfect in between finish to my skin. Not too oily, not too dry.

Maybelline Baby Skin
I love this product, especially as a dupe for the Benefit Porefessional. I tend to place this onto my skin before foundation, just to act as a primer and to help blur out any enlarged pores in my T-Zone area. Some people are not as keen on how the product itself is clear in colour and has a slight silicone consistency to it, I however quite like this. The clear colour to the product means it has no effect to the tint of your skin and so blends in well with any foundation. The consistency of the product, I feel only adds to bringing and locking in your skin's moisture furthermore, which is something I definitely need on some days more than others!

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream in 'Light'
At first, I never really understood the hype about BB creams. To me they were a waste. Minimal coverage, if any at all and barely made a difference to my skin, I didn't feel as though I looked more awake at all. However, this product has definitely made me re-consider my feelings towards BB creams. The product claims to have 8 benefits all in one. It enhances a natural glow, compliments skin tone, SPF30, hydrates all day, blurs imperfections, oil free, looks visibly smooth and feels fresh. On the whole I do feel this is around 85% correct. I'm unsure as to whether it blurs imperfections but it definitely makes my skin feel refreshed and leaves it feeling super soft too! I actually use this more now than an actual foundation. My spots have reduced massively lately and so I don't really feel the need to 'cake' a heavy foundation onto my skin, this gives me just the right amount of coverage as well as adding a  healthy, looking glow.

Maybelline Rocket Volume Express
I always return to this mascara, without fail. Just as it says in its' name, it certainly does add 'rocket volume' to my lashes. I find sometimes drugstore mascaras usually clump easier and so you are left with a fair amount of residue on your lashes if you aren't careful but with this product, I honestly cannot think of a time that has ever happened! It separates my lashes really well, alongside the added volume. The only negative aspect is unfortunately the length doesn't last all day, although for me this just happens with any mascara anyway. I unfortunately just have very small eye lashes, it's inevitable that the length has to droop eventually.

Maybelline Instant Anti Age Rewind Concealer
This product genuinely works wonders for my dark circles, and I will tell you now.. as a student mine certainly aren't pretty! I also place this on any visible blemishes I may have and blend this in with a beauty blender, to create an even finish to my skin. The product contains natural ingredients, including Goji berry which helps to replenish and rejuvenate the skin. I sometimes think a concealer can strangely dry my skin up, bringing out the appearance of dark circles even more but this one blends in super well, with a satisfactory medium coverage.

So that was it for my drugstore favourites! If you haven't already guessed, I am just a little bit of a fan of Rimmel and Maybelline. So I hope you liked this post, have you tried any of these products before? Let me know in the comments below! Also, what are your favourite drugstore brands?!

Until next time lovelies..
