10 Things I'd Tell My Younger Self

Monday, April 27, 2015

I think our teenage years go so quickly! I think it's crazy to think I was only starting high school six years ago and now I'm about to start university in September. I've made a lot of embarrassing mistakes along the way so I thought I'd share with you the advice I would tell my 12 year old self if I could go back in time.

1. Panda eyes aren't cute. You will look like the living dead.
2. You don't have to change what you like to fit in. Just be you.
3. Don't over pluck your eyebrows. You WILL regret it. Trust me.
4. That neon green and neon blue Paul's Boutique hoody/bag are very ugly.
5. Popularity isn't everything.
6. Standing around all day in the cold waiting for a boyband really isn't that fun.
7. Don't care too much about what the world thinks of you. Laugh it off.
8. Enjoy your friendships. People come and go, hold onto the special ones.
9. Don't grow up too quickly. You're only a child once, stay immature whilst you can.
10. Blend bronzer into your neck, you're supposed to look natural not 'orange'.

So I hope you liked this post lovelies! If you could relate to any of these let me know in the comments down below, I'd love to hear some of your funny and embarrassing teenage moments. Until next time,

Feeling Ribbed - Wolford Tights & Hosiery*

Monday, April 20, 2015

I've definitely been in need of some new tights, so when the lovely Kerri from Wolford contacted me to try out a pair of their luxurious tights I was more than delighted to give them a go! I chosen the Fine Cotton Rib Tights in 'Black'. I have really been enjoying all things ribbed at the moment, particularly t-shirts and so I decided to change things up a little on the tights front and choose something a little different from what I would usually opt for.

Outfit details:
Top - Topshop
Skirt - Goldie London (Topshop Boutique - Old)
Tights - Wolford*
Shoes - Topshop
Necklace - Topshop
Lipstick - New York Apple by MAC

I can honestly say I have NEVER, EVER found tights that fit as well as these do. When I wear tights I usually always have a really awkward sizing problem. They either are too 'waggy' and the inner leg area falls down (Cute, I know!) or if I purchase a larger size they fit too high on my waist. It's usually a nightmare, so I am super impressed with the sizing of these. These are also super comfy too, I honestly felt like I was wearing leggings! I also walk 'knock-kneed' as well aka my knees brush against each other whilst I'm walking and these do not itch my legs in the slightest which deserves extra brownie points from me! As a side reference I ordered mine in a size medium and I usually wear a standard size 10 on the high street.

Initially I really loved the added touch of the waistband having the company name 'Wolford' engraved into the band, the band also has a scallop trim detail which is super pretty. The actual main feature design of the tights is very subtle, as it is naturally imprinted into the material like a stripe rather than a 3D rib which is good for someone who is only used to wearing boring old plain tights haha! The design also isn't too subtle where you can't see it, it's the perfect inbetween tone. These tights are also super versatile and can be worn with pretty much anything. Stripes are very on trend right now, especially ribbing so I felt super stylish in these haha!

'Wolford' are a tights and hosiery company based in the beautiful city of Milan. They sell everything from invisible tight socks all the way through to body suits. They even sell the classic piece needed in every woman's wardrobe, of course I am talking about the little black dress. Their prices range from £8 upwards if you are in the UK. $10 if you are in Ireland and $15 if you are in the US. The quality of these tights are 100% worth their value! They are super soft, super comfy and beautifully fitted. They do not feel tight around the waist area either, usually with tights I am left with an imprint on my skin after wearing them the whole day but with these there was nothing. It's true what you say, you definitely pay more for quality! And I can assure you these are the highest quality tights I have ever worn.

The only negative thing I have to say about these is they do slightly gather lint but that may just be because they were new as black items usually do tend to do that. Buying black jeans can be a nightmare for lint sometimes! Since washing them however, the lint has come off so I can't complain!

Overall rating? 10/10! The delivery was super quick and convenient, perfect sizing, perfect comfort, perfect design and perfect material. Smiles all round!! The team were also super helpful, if you have any queries regarding sizing they were more than happy to help. They stated to carry sizes 1 to 10, I initially thought this was shoe size but they explained to me they stock sizes from Small to Large, I requested a medium and they did it all for me. A lovely, helpful and easy service.

I hope you enjoyed this post lovelies and the way that I chosen to style these. Simple but effective was my aim and I have really been loving the monochrome look at the moment. A special thank you to Wolford* for contacting me and supplying me with these beautiful tights, I shall definitely be making a purchase of my own sometime in the future! Until next time beauts!

Have you ever purchased from Wolford before?

Battle of the Mascaras: Benefit Cosmetics

Wednesday, April 15, 2015

Hello lovelies, here is the second instalment of my one brand, one week dedication posts. Besides brows, I'm pretty sure a lot of you will agree that Benefit Cosmetics are the queens of eyes, particularly mascara. I've been lucky enough to test out all three of the mascaras Benefit offer and they are all very different and each have their own benefits. As you probably all know Roller Lash definitely wins this battle hands down for me but we all have different eye shapes and lash lengths so if you haven't tried any of the Benefit mascaras before then here is a compare and contrast of the positives and negatives of each.

I like this mascara but I don't love it. Nothing about it makes me go crazy and jump for joy. It adds a decent length to the lashes, it doesn't clump and it is fairly long lasting but something about this just doesn't have that 'wow' factor for me. One thing I will say however is I do like the brush for this, as it is so thick you don't have to apply many coats to create a decent lash length with this. This mascara is definitely buildable if you want to create a dramatic thick set of lashes. You can buy BADgal lash for £17.50 here

Overall Rating? 7/10

I DON'T SEE THE HYPE. Seriously, I just can't. I really like this mascara for lengthening my bottom lashes, it helps to separate them and leave my eyes look more 'open' however I just don't think it does anything at all to my top lashes. It lengthens yes but because it doesn't curl my eyelashes look like they are drooping rather than lifted which is a real shame. I haven't ever applied this with an eyelash curler actually so if you have any tips on how you get this mascara to create lashes that make everyone go 'WOW'. Then let me know because I'd love to understand this hype. You can purchase They're Real for £19.50 here

Overall rating? 7/10

Now this is the kind of mascara that gets me talking. This mascara just has it all it lifts, curls, lengthens and lasts brilliantly with and without an eyelash primer. I don't even curl my eyelashes prior to application, the curved brush just works it's curly magic as you apply. I don't think the camera even does justice as to how amazing this mascara actually is, ever since it was released genuinely nothing else has been able to compare!! But I don't want to keep spending £19.50 on a mascara each time it runs out so if you have any really good dupes let me know! The way this curls as well also adds a really lovely 'flutter' to my lashes which I think just looks so natural and girly. Definitely a must have in any girls make-up collection. On the downside however, this mascara does clump my lashes quite a bit but hey I guess nothing can be perfect right? You can purchase Roller Lash for £19.50 here

Overall rating? 9/10

So I hope you liked this post lovelies, I'm sorry for seeming a little harsh with my reviews but I am an absolute perfectionist when it comes to mascara especially since the anticipated release of Roller Lash earlier in the year my expectations have just become super high. I'll be posting a make-up look on Friday featuring only Benefit products including the entirety of my Benefit collection so stay tuned for that! Until next time,

When you apply your mascara, do you have a mascara 'derp' face that you just naturally pull? Mine is ridiculous I sometimes don't even realise I'm doing it!!

Please excuse the state of my eyebrows, I'm currently in the process of growing them out so they look awful I know!!

Bene-Kisses: Lip Balm Review

Monday, April 13, 2015

Hello lovelies, how are you all? I've decided to do something a little different with my blog this week and I'll actually be posting today (Monday) as well as Wednesday and Friday. I've decided to dedicate this one week on my blog to Benefit Cosmetics as when I began getting into make-up around 2 years ago now, this is the brand I have accumulated the most from. And whilst I feel my collection is basically at its peak I've decided to just share my thoughts on the brand through 3 posts as I feel I own enough products to understand the brand pretty well. If this is something you would like to see on my blog with another brand then please let me know in the comments below and when I feel I've collected enough from the brand I would be more than happy to do that.

As you probably already know I love lip products, my stash of them has become pretty hefty at the moment. I have now finally managed to collect all of the Benefit lip balms and so I thought I would share with you my thoughts on the different shades and whether or not they are actually worth the hype.

As I'm writing this I genuinely am wearing Benebalm from when I taken these shots three hours ago and I still don't feel the need to top up, these lip balms are so moisturising and creamy it's amazing. That's also a shock coming from me who must reapply lip balm easily 30 times a day. Benebalm adds a very natural touch of red to the lips, it's actually only just slightly darker than my actual lip colour. Very subtle if you're going for a more natural, 'no make-up' make-up look. Solely based on the actual pigmentation of this shade it isn't worth £14.50. I have a cranberry lip balm from The Body Shop which adds more of a noticeable red tint than this. However, the moisturising and creamy feel to this deserve a 10/10.

Overall rating? 7/10

Lollibalm once again adds a very subtle touch of colour to the lips. This time the shade is on the more Barbie pink side of things. Unfortunately for me, the colour doesn't show up too much on my lips but for a day where I want my make-up to look a little more natural and I want to keep my lips in tip-top moisturised condition then I would definitely reach for this.

Overall rating? 7/10

I am literally in LOVE with this shade. I haven't actually worn chachabalm in the longest time but after photographing it for this post I have now fallen back in love. The colour isn't something I would usually go for, I'm more into my nude toned shades or subtle pinks but the coral undertones of this aren't too in your face. I think I'll definitely be reaching for this shade more often from now on. If you're looking for a good dupe the Maybelline Baby Lips Electro Shock in 'Oh Orange' is a great alternative. But I am SO impressed with this shade. The pigmentation for a lip balm is great and like the others of course this is super moisturising. £14.50 is fairly expensive for a lip balm but I believe this shade is definitely worth the hype.

Overall Rating? 9/10

Unfortunately, my camera is not doing Posiebalm any justice. This shade is actually my most worn out of them all, especially recently it has become my current go to. It's such a subtle flush of pink yet it does add a noticeable difference at the same time. This shade is perfect if you are looking for an everyday lip balm and the size of these make them so handy to just chuck in your bag if you're in a rush and unsure of what lip product to wear that day then these are always a safe bet.

Overall rating? 8/10 (Would have been a nine but the camera just isn't doing this justice!!)

Four versatile colours, highly moisturising just not very pigmented but for a lip balm you can't really complain. I think a lip balm is just an absolute necessity in any girls make-up product and the packaging of these is just stunning. They are slightly on the pricey side for a lip balm, after all a MAC lipstick is only a £1 dearer!!

Are they worth the hype? If you're looking for a luxury lip balm purchase then yes definitely but if you'd rather save the money there are plenty of similar and much cheaper alternatives.

I hope you liked this post lovelies, look out for Wednesday's post as I'll be comparing and contrasting my opinion on each of the three Benefit mascaras. Until then,

10 Tips To Avoid The Junk

Monday, April 6, 2015

We're a quarter into 2015. We all made vows that this year was the year we were actually going to stick to our diets for once. Was that not the case for you? Have no fear, below are some top 10 tips on how to avoid eating the junk!

1. Need a chocolate fix? Try a light hot chocolate option. I really like the Cadbury's Highlights they help to satisfy any chocolate craving and the best bit is they contain only 38 calories a sachet!

2. Try to avoid snacking inbetween meals. This is a really bad habit of mine as of course a chocolate bar or a packet of crisps is the easy option. Opt for a small yoghurt, a bag of grapes or even a slice of toast if you're not a fruit lover.

3. Avoid takeaways/fast food at all costs. I know they are convenient and I lately have become especially guilty of taking a trip one too many to my local Costa or Starbucks. Prepare your lunch the night before and place it in the fridge - can't use the excuse of having no time to make your own now, can you?

4. Treat yourself. Calculate the amount of money you spend on eating fast food when you're out and about, the cost will quickly add up. That new lipstick or jacket you're desperate to buy? Print a picture of it out or screenshot it and set it as your phone lock screen. That way, the next time you're faced with spending money on a McDonald's you'll soon become rid of the urge.

5. Actually treat yourself. If you cut out junk food completely when you begin to turn back to it (Because we all do in the end, don't lie!) you'll probably fall down that spiralling path of missing it so much and eating just a little bit too much of it and all that hard work and good eating will have been a waste. Choose one day a week or even just a specific date every month to be a treat day and to make that day become a day to eat whatever you wish just for one day. You'll appreciate the taste much more and thus, really look forward to that day every month.

6. Read quotes. I find it so motivating when I read something as a reminder to keep going. Recently I decided to write down some quotes onto slips of paper and to roll them up into a couple of jars. Each morning I'll pick one out and it really helps to place me in a good and motivated mood for the day. For example:

"What you eat in private, you wear in public

On some cards I also have little tasks set for me to carry out that day such as to eat my 5 a day, something which I should probably work on more! But this way it becomes more of a challenge and a game for myself rather than a chore.

7. Write it down. When it comes to fitness and healthy eating, writing down exactly how I feel on a bad day where I have ate far too much rubbish and I feel as big as a house works as a massive motivator for me. None of us enjoy feeling like crap but we should use that feeling and compare it to the feeling of happiness or self-achievement when we've had a good day exercising or eating well and assumably on those days you feel pretty proud of yourself. This always helps me to keep going and reminds me of how much better I feel when I eat well consistently rather than sitting around doing nothing all day and eating an excessive amount of chocolate, ice-cream and pizza.

8. Break free from old routines. If you're somebody who does the same thing every day so you're either in school or work a full time job then there's probably a time you associate with snack time. It's easy to fall into a habit and your body naturally becomes hungry then specifically if you have trained it to know that 10:30 every day is your time to bag that 50p cookie. Instead, distract yourself. Sometimes keeping ourselves busy during our snack time will help your mind to focus on something else rather than that cookie. You could go for a walk around the block or finish off that english essay that you've decided to leave the ending of half an hour before your lesson.

9. Drink enough fluid. Drinking the RDA of water each day will probably fill you up in between meals rather than snacking on a bag of crisps. Not only will you be able to flush out your body of any unwanted toxins but the action of placing a drink into your mouth can actually psychologically trick your body into thinking it is being fed.

10. Find alternatives. Don't like water? Add some chopped fruit into a glass of water this could literally be anything. Strawberries, lemons, oranges you name it. This will add a sweet taste to the water, allowing you to satisfy those sugary drink cravings. Instead of crisps try baking some apple chips! There are plenty of alternatives to satisfy those junk food urges, in fact because I'm so kind I've included some lists I found for you here, here and here.

What do you do to avoid the junk?

Cake Pop Inspired Easter Eggs

Friday, April 3, 2015

Hello lovelies! Now of course I couldn't resist making another Easter inspired treat so naturally I decided to share the result with you guys. In today's post I decided to make some cake pops as naturally the dark chocolate circular shape just reminded me of Easter eggs. Now these are super messy but they tasted SO good! I've honestly never made cake pops before but they were super easy to make. Perfect for Easter right?!

What You Will Need:

  • Cake Mixture
  • 1 Egg
  • Cake pop moulds
  • Cake pop kit for the sticks. (I purchased mine from Tesco it came with the sticks, labels, ties and wrapping!)
  • Dark Chocolate
  • Any toppings of your choice

How to Make:

  • Pre-heat your oven to Gas Mark 5.
  • Mix into a bowl your cake mixture, 1 egg and 4 teaspoons of water to create the batter.
  • Once you have reached a creamy consistency place the mixture into your cake pop moulds. (The side without the holes!)
  • Pop the mould into place and bake for 10-12 minutes.
  • Once cooked, leave to cool for 5 minutes.
  • Whilst they cool, place your chocolate into a bowl. Pour cold water into a pan and place onto a stove to boil. Place the chocolate bowl on top of the pan to melt the chocolate as the water boils.
  • Once melted, dip one side of your cake pop sticks into the chocolate then place into the cake pop (whilst still in the mould) at around 2/3 of the way through.
  • Place in the fridge to harden so the stick stays in place on the cake pop.
  • Once cooled, pop your cake pops out of the mould from the bottom in order to avoid breakage. Then cover in chocolate and sprinkles and leave to cool.
  • Add your finishing touches; labels, ties, wrappers or anything else you prefer and voila!
  • Eat and enjoy!

These make for such cute Easter presents as the thought is there you decided to make your own little egg for them from scratch rather than do the easy thing and head to the shops.

I hope you liked this post lovelies, if you recreate these or have created some of your own in the past do let me know in the comments down below I'd love to see them. I hope you have a lovely Easter weekend dears! Until next time..

March Favourites

Wednesday, April 1, 2015

So we are now officially a quarter into 2015, how crazy is that?! It makes me so happy knowing that Summer isn't actually that long away now anymore but on the other hand knowing I have exams in 10 weeks scares me just a little bit! March has been a month of returning to old favourites of mine, it's nice to venture back into things we used to love every now and then so this lovelies is of course, my March favourites.

Bourjois Healthy Mix in 'Light Vanilla'
Back in December I was absolutely in love with this. This month after my BB cream hype I decided to return to this, the coverage of it is just amazing. I love the colouring too it's so perfect for my skin, I don't fake-tan either so it's a great match! Overall I love everything about this, the finish is flawless it conceals any redness on my skin and doesn't crease around my mouth area nor does it cling to any dry patches around my nose. I'd say this gives around 75% spot coverage so for a drugstore product that's pretty amazing. This gets a huge thumbs up from me!

Maybelline Instant Anti-Age Rewind Concealer in 'Light'
Once again, another old favourite of mine. For a while I've been using the darker shade 'Nude' as when I went to make a re-purchase the light shade unfortunately wasn't available. Hence my transition into BB creams; a lighter 'foundation'/base works perfectly for de-tensifying (if that is even a word?!) the pigmentation of a dark concealer. In other words, the concealer doesn't appear as intense. I've finally used the darker shade up and I've began to fall back in love with my original shade. I love how it brightens up my under eyes, the coverage of this is fairly good as well. Not 100% but definitely a good 70%. The formulation of this product is so creamy as well, something I adore in a concealer.

Max Factor Creme Puff Blush in 'Lovely Pink'
I know, I know. I did just include this in my February favourites. But I couldn't not mention it again this month, it's far too good. And I'd be lying if I said I hadn't worn this pretty much 5 days out of 7 a week. The colour of this is so natural and the colour-pay off is amazing it's so long lasting and I just adore the pretty flush of pink it adds to my cheeks. Throughout March I've actually been wearing less make-up than usual. A BB cream, concealer, a touch of mascara this trustee pink blush and a lip balm and highlighter to finish. Simple but effective as they say, right?

Rimmel London Exaggerate Eye-Liner in '100% Black'
Now, finally onto something new that I've tried out this month. I became in desperate need of a liquid eyeliner and so I went on the hunt for the perfect one. This, definitely ticks all of the boxes. I worn this to my little cousin's christening this month and it honestly lasted me all day. It didn't smudge nor crease and the pigmentation is amazing. It's definitely true to it's name '100% Black'. If you haven't tried this one out yet, I definitely recommend it. I used to be awful at winged eyeliner but recently I've been getting there. This product makes application so easy, it's small precision wand helps to apply the product tightly alongside the lash line and effortlessly creates a pretty, small flick which is definitely easily buildable without creating a panda eye. I'm in love.

Benefit Posie Balm
Once again, something I have recently been getting back into recently. I in fact do have all of the Benefit lip balms but this one by far is my favourite, it adds such a natural colour to the lips and I've definitely been into my pinkish toned products recently. This product is super creamy and moisturising to the lips it has definitely become my go to lip balm this month.

Benefit Benetint USB Stick
HOW CUTE IS THIS?! This was a free gift as part of an order I made earlier in the month and I'm in love. I feel so cool slotting in my 'beauty product' into my computer haha, oh god I'm sad I know! But this is adorable and looks so cute on my dresser when it isn't in use. I'm such a sucker for anything with cute packaging like this, it's just so original! My photographer teacher just laughed at me when she seen me using this in class! Ahh, I love it and I was so impressed it came with 2GB of memory, that's a pretty fair amount considering this was FREE!!

So that has been everything I have been loving throughout the month of February. It isn't as much as I would have usually tried out but it is definitely nice sometimes to save some money and remember why your old favourites were your favourites before. Have you tried any of my March favourites before? Until next time lovelies!

What have you been loving in March?
